Farewell, Mr. Spitzer - but not goodbye! In the history of British politics, sex has reared it's ugly head on numerous occasions. Perhaps over on this side of the pond, we need a good healthy dose of sex from time to time to spice politics up. Indeed, the Macmillan government of 1963 was brought down by the antics of the then Minister for War, Mr. Profumo, with the exquisite Miss Keeler who was described as a "showgirl". Well, we would, wouldn't we? We are British, after all! No politician worth his salt would bed a prostitute - would he?

I am sure the American people are just as forgiving as we British - perhaps more so. Mr. Profumo was certainly forgiven and was, many years later, awarded a New Year's honour by Lizzie of that Ilk. Was it not the celebrated Mr. Wilde who once remarked that "there is only one thing worse than being talked about, and that is NOT being talked about?" How right he was!

So that's all right, then! In the true spirit of politics, Mr. Spitzer will be forgiven. Remember, you read it here first!
