It is a natural human behavior to treat a blind man, whether intellectually or psychological capable, with somewhat of a 'kid gloves'. patterson is accustomed to this all his life, and this is why he does not really like the confrontational style of his predecessor with whose platform and promises to New York both of them shared and won. He may not be a pushover, but his affirmed wish to be 'liked' by people or co-workers is not the proper approach to either silver or bruno, but rather, firmness and even hostile confrontation to get your point across, is necessary in politics.
