War Games
in response to reader comment: Zero attention span

My father volunteered for Army Service at the start of WWII. He served in all five European campaigns. Two bronze stars, one for valor...feet frozen in the Battle of the Bulge...ad infinitum. He never talked much about his combat experiences or that he was brave. He did say he would volunteer to fight again if a situation akin to Hitler's Germany existed. He has been dead for twenty years.

But sometimes I wonder about this. If he was alive and evaluated the positions of the candidates running for President, observed the distaste of some Western European leaders for America, and the current social values of our culture, would he still feel this way. The current state of America doesn't make dictatorships seem better, but it may cause pause to a thoughful person who is thinking of volunteering for the military. The United States has never declared war after WWII. They will never declare war again. The politicians just can't sell it.
