N.Y. Leaders Weigh In on Spitzer Scandal

Submitted by Colonel Benjamin, Mar 14, 2008 04:15

So the meaningless hollow compliments begin to roll! How impressive or, to be more precise, how political, what? But let us analyse this situation very carefully indeed and ask ourselves whether these people are really saddened - or somewhat relieved that they have not been brought to book for some perhaps minor infringement. Yes, the truth hurts, does it not! After all, this is the world of politics!

How many of these self same people, I wonder, actually had the decency to voice a few kind and appreciative words to Mr. Spitzer when he was all-powerful? Not one, you can be sure! After all, this is the world of politics, remember! Dog eat dog, self-preservation - you know what I mean! I wonder just how many of these politicians would consider calling to see, or at least telephoning, Mr. Spitzer and offering to be there for both himself and his family? None, because, you see, this is politics!

Over here across the pond, on what used to be known as Tony's Isle, we consider the first duty of a politician is to feather his own nest first and foremost. And, of course, many do. Politics once again, you see! How easy it is to compliment a man when he has fallen from grace: how difficult it is to stand by him when he needs you most. You see, that is known as bravery, and in my view there are times when it is necessary for one to be perfectly indifferent to public opinion. But, of course, that means being both honest and gentlemanly. This is politics, remember!

I wish the new governor well. He is a rare combination of two breeds - an officer and a gentleman. He commands respect, and thoroughly deserves it. I might add that he is well-respected over here, too. But will his underlings respect him? Somehow, I doubt it. For this is politics, remember!
