Shock Therapy Emerges As Detail in Therapist's Killing

Submitted by Sue Clark Wittenberg, Mar 15, 2008 08:52

Hello, I am Sue Clark Wittenberg from Ottawa, Ontario.I am an electroshock (ECT) survivor. I had 5 ECTs given to me against my will at the age of l7 years old in 1973 at the Brockville Psychiatric Hospital. On my 5th ECT, my heart stopped and I had to be revived.

I suffer from permanent memory loss and have difficulty learning new things as a result of having had ECT. Prior to ECT I ahd no problems with learning.

ECT always causes brain damage according to the latest article by Peter R. Breggin, psychiatrist in the USA. See the article entitled "Disturbing News for Patients and Shock Doctors Alike" at his blog section at his website at www.breggin.com

I am the Director of "International Campaign to Ban Electroshock" (ICBE). The website for the URL is:
http://icbe.wordpress.com The ICBE will lobby all politicians all over the world to demand that ECT be banned universally. The ICBE deems ECT as unethical, barbaric, inhumane and torture.

Statistics for the number of ECTs given yearly.

USA - 100,000 americnas get ECT yearly
Ontario, Canada - 14,000 ECTs given yearly
British Columbia, Canada - 46,000 ECTs given in the past 5 years
UK - 50,000 ECTs given yearly.
Worldwide - 1 to 2 million people get ECT yearly
