Kudos to the reporter for giving some space to the other side (i.e. people on the receiving end) of this quackery. It would have been nice if he also reported on Sackheim's financial conflicts of interest (google mecta sackheim) and lack of disclosure of same to the NIMH prior to his most recent $500,000/year federal grant. Of course even Sackheim now admits that ECT causes brain damage. The next logical step would be to connect the dots to the well studied emotional consequences of brain damage in the victim.

It must be very convenient for Sackheim and his ilk to attribute the trauma and misery induced by this "therapy" to mental illness. Ironically, he's right. The question is who is displaying overt symptoms of psychopathology.
