I'm sure this comment won't make iinto print but that's no excuse for not telling the truth.
I'm not sure what ax Mr. McWhorter has to grind but his assertion that the almost complete disappearance of America's industrial base has little to do with young men turning to crime is absurd. What should the Wire characters all do? A career at McDonalds? Tell us Mr. McWhorter, just exactly what are millions of uneducated young men supposed to do for a decent living without the places of work that their forebears took for granted? Why is it that the only people making Mr. McWhorter's argument are those who don't depend on those jobs for their living? When someone figures out a way to send "Senior Fellows" positions to China, they will undoubtedly come up with studies and statistics telling us why this is an evil thing.
