After reading your column, I feel the need of a good hot shower.
Growing up Black on Staten Island, going to an all white grammar school, and an all white High School was no picnic. Many of the things Rev. Wright says I can identify with, as can most Black Americans. Back then we were Negroes or Colored, just barely human, and surely not good enough to be considered first class citizens....
Senator Obama has said that he disagrees with the statements Rev. Wright has made...He realizes that they are from different Generations, and that Rev. Wright holds some very controversial views. He does not ,now nor has he ever embraced those views....
Growing up, my family managed to have a good life because of hard work. Can you imagine how much better and easier that life would have been without the heavy weight of Racism constantly pulling us down. Every black person in American has felt as Michele Obama has felt....heartsick over the way this country that we do love has treated us in the past... Still Black men went to war, and are still going.
Now Senator Obama, who is not just a Black Man, but a product of two races is running for President. Everyone in this country should be proud of the fact that inspite of the ugly Jim Crow laws in the south, and the sometime overt racism in the north. we've been able to get to this point.
So get off your soap box.
