First, to all involved, my most heartfelt condolences on the tragic events regarding John Granville.
Every couple of years, I do a web search to learn what I can about Cleo Noel. I only met Mr. Noel once, at his home next door to that of Sec'y of Defense Melvin Laird, but I was quite a tight friend with his son, John, in a New England boarding school in the last four years of the '60s. (I had been there, at their home, with friends, to participate in a "moratorium" to protest the Vietnam debacle). I called him from college two or three years after we had parted to offer my thoughts on his father's death.
What I learned, here on the Internet, two or three years ago, was that Johny's father was machined-gunned to death, from the ankles-up, (to maximize the pain), by those "Black September Guerrillas". Now, we learn that it was on the direct, if coded, orders of Yassir Arafat.
I try to be as liberal or enlightened as can be expected but it is hard to fathom how we can be expected to have to negotiate with anyone remotely representing people who could sink to such cowardly lows as to torture and kill an innocent civilian putting himself at clear risk to be a contributor to peace in the region.
Rob
