N.Y. Gun Laws in Balance as High Court Weighs D.C. Case

Submitted by Chief outside Philadelphia, Mar 18, 2008 16:44

Thank you for your Mar 17 08 gun laws article, Mr Goldstein. In your 6th paragraph you refer to the presumption and opinion held by "legal experts" that some gun restrictions "are all reasonable" which just isn't true as gun crime rates have gone down in every state that has seen Right to Carry laws inacted in recent years. The criminals are detered in these areas because they no longer believe everyone is so helpless anymore and may pull a handgun in self defence on the street. Very few states remain that don't have such Right to Carry laws....which is still limited to the law abiding adults, non-felons, mentally sound, often with training requirements and other provisions. Just anybody doesn't get to carry unless they are criminals following their job descripion. Wash D.C. has been in violation of the 2nd Amendment for 32 years as well as NYC and many other juristictions. The cities don't turn into wild west zones because more citizens chose to bare arms. Legitimate owners of guns make for a more secure state.
