Obama Speech Seeks To Quell Issue of Race

Submitted by William Barr, Mar 18, 2008 17:36

" "In the white community, the path to a more perfect union means acknowledging that what ails the African-American community does not just exist in the minds of black people; that the legacy of discrimination — and current incidents of discrimination, while less overt than in the past — are real and must be addressed," Mr. Obama said. "

All peoples who came to America suffered discrimination. How many white indentured servant women were raped by their benefactors? How many poor white settlers had to go over the Appalachian Mountains to find a place where they would likely die from Indian attacks? How many Irish felt their famous discrimination when landing on this continent? How many Asians came that were treated no differently then blacks (African Americans is a misnomer which would include white South Africans who have lived in historically in SA as long as most blacks and Berber North Africans)? How about the Jews, the Italians and the Eastern Europeans who came and suffered discrimination? One difference in these groups and blacks is that they did not require the moral action by white America of a Civil War to free them.

Once blacks were freed, the Democratic Party established Jim Crow. Only when Democratics decided in the early sixties to throw over their historical white southern constituency (given IKE a Republican beginning school desegregation in the fifties), did the current Democratic concerns for black well being come into existence.

Since group politics has been guiding principle of the Democrats since Andrew Jackson, Obama's statement above is not surprising. Obama is saying the foundation of Rev Wright's statement while hatefully expressed is nevertheless correct. Is it correct for the indentured servants, the Scot-Irish Hill Billys, the Asians, the Jews, Italians and Eastern Europeans? Where is Obama's concern for all American peoples who suffer discrimination (if such a concept is sensible)?

A new group must raise itself beyond discrimination which all American historically have done, including prosperous blacks. But of course the veiled threat of racial politics in Obama's speech shows the desperate need for white acknowledgement of subtle black oppression without which his/their group politics in our time would fail.

Obama has a favored group, black Americas; and no doubt given his economic policies the oppressors are single white males or white families who are successful in life.

Obama's view on black oppression in American is divisive and dangerous, and a testament to his parochial views on race and oppression in America.

Obama's affiliation to Wright makes him the wrong man at the wrong time for healing race issues and the black community must reject the Christian theology professed by Rev Wright, Obama's spiritual leader.

Too bad Colin Powell or Condelisa Rice are not running for President. They are the American Blacks who would unite America as President.
