In a more rational government, that would be true, but not New York A crisis should force even our special interest-addled legislature to make tough budget decisions and cut spending. But New York's political class have proven uniquely deaf to such alarms. Their history of having ignored economic signs of distress is tantamount to governmental malpractice, and the loss of a million New Yorkers who saw no future for themselves in this state is proof of their negligence. You would think they'd have the sense to cut ties with the unions and teachers and lawyers who pull their strings and make them dance to their tune, but bad habits are impossible to break. Nothing will change in Albany until Bruno and Silver are gone, and legislators grow some spine. Don't hold your breath for either to happen real soon.
