"But though I was wary, it never occurred to me that I might be attacked merely for being a non-Muslim. The new phenomenon of "faith-hate" was only incubating." Jews, Muslims, Hindus and others have been attacked for decades, and still are, in that part of London and elsewhere. "Even more disturbing is that the authorities are not treating these attacks as motivated by jihadi ideology." These were drunken youths, a fact you mysteriously have overlooked. Hardly practising Muslims, let alone 'jihadis', these youths have turned their back on their religion and adopted the local custom of violent drunkeness. "The police and prosecutors will classify an attack on a mosque or Muslim as a hate crime but not if it is a church or a vicar." It *has* been classified as a faith crime. It is shameful that people like Daniel Johnson so grossly distort the truth to promote their own bigoted views. I live in the East End, I'm white, and I feel much safer now than when Daniel Johnson claims to have been here in the 90s, when the right wing thugs of the British National Party plagued our streets.
