A Second Look at Kosovo

"Indeed, the Serbs in Kosovo are actually a majority in one well-defined enclave; they themselves wish to succeed, but the new Kosovar government will hear nothing of Serb self-determination within Kosovo."

Unfortunately, your argument is very hard to accept considering the fact that there is no border cutting through Kosovo between Serbian enclave and the rest of Kosovo. Kosovo and its borders however, have been determined during the Tito time. If one allows succession of serbs on mere ethnic lines then where does it stop? Should Presevo, Bujanovac and other parts of Serbian territory where Albanians live join Kosovo? Should the Albanians in Macedonia decide to succeed etc. In addition, the kosovar government and the international community is providing so many rights to the minority serbs in Kosovo which exceed the norm in any European country. This is all based on the Ahtisari plan. Can you imagine that Kosovo government cannot change any parts of the constitution without the approval of the majority of less than 10 % of population? What I am trying to say is that we as kosovars are ready to accept serbs in Kosovo as equals, something that Serbia was never able to do for the Albanians living in Kosovo.

The breakaway of Yugoslavia started with Kosovo and it will stop with Kosovo. I hope the Serbs will face the reality and move on into their goal of becoming part of EU. If you miss us that much, don't worry we'll meet again under EU umbrella.
