As a Pharmacist with over 25 years experience, I do not believe importation of drugs from Canada is the answer. I believe the answer is twofold: 1.) Find some way to force Pharmaceutical Manufacturers to develop a "world" price i.e., the same price in every market of the world. Some prices would go up, some would go down, but the PM's profits would be protected. 2.) Keep Congress out of the Medicare D business. This program is a fiasco. 400+ plans, volatile formularies, different pricing, copays, etc., and to top it all off, a "donut hole". It's a typical government program. "Go to Medicare.gov and choose your plan". HA! Can YOUR Mom use a computer much less the internet. There should not be more than six programs, mandated copays and premiums, and mandated formularies. Oh, and by the way, it would be really nice if pharmacy reimbursements were structured high enough to keep us all from going out of business. Thanks for the opportunity to offer some input.
