How the West Could Lose

"Should Islamists get smart and avoid mass destruction, sticking instead to the lawful, political, nonviolent route, and should their movement remain vital, it is difficult to see what will stop them"

From Mr. Pipes' article

What will stop them is the same lawful and vital response of the West and it's peoples, which can only come about by way of an end to the self-hatred and complacency that Pipes laments in this piece, a recovery of pride in the many great achievements of the West and the resumption of the organic development of this heritage. The military side of the West's response is important but it is only one part of the winning strategy, and I'd say it is the only one that Pipes considers here. We in the nations of the West and, arguably, in the many other societies of the non-Muslim world, need to vigourously and forcefully expose the many flaws of Islam and assert the truths, moral, spiritual and poligical, taught within our own traditions, both in terms of argument, apology, polemics and spiritual sense of mission, and in terms of concrete advancement. I would also note that all this has to mean aggressive measures to counter the collpase of the birthrate among indigenous western peoples and reverse the decline in populations that are putting the West at such a disadvantage, especially in Europe. The building of strong, wealthy and successful societies, who have their own "committed cadres", societies that provide credible and worthy alternatives to Islam and that are inhabited by people with the courage of the convictions that make such accomplishments possible, who are capable of standing up to the absurdities of the utterly misguided Islamic belief system, and who, most of all consider themselves worthy of being handed down to posterity (which requires having a posterity to hand them down to), perhaps even more than superior military power is what, if we pull it off, will save the day. In other words, start believing in ourselves and asserting ourselves once again on the world stage, not just in terms of military strength, but in terms of ideological muscle and demographic strength.
