I am an Anglican priest and worked for 46 years (1958-2004) in the area described in 'London's No-Go Zones'. I lived a few hundred yards from George's in the East from 1958 to 1962, and about half a mile from it from 1974 to 1981 and 1990 to 2004. I did not recognise my 'old patch' from this sensational piece. The only 'no-go' area I ever encountered in this area was in part of Bethnal Green (where I was rector of one of the parishes) in the 1970s when white racist organisations made one small neighbourhood a no-go area for Asian people until a united group of Muslims, Christians and others drove the racists out.
I don't think the author can have read Rowan Williams's lecture and I would suggest he does so.,
