If the Sunnis and Shiites want to destroy themselves, I say let them. They would be doing our work for us, and at no cost in American lives. It's a dangerous mistake to think we or anyone can keep such millenial rivalries bottled up forever. Instead, we just encourage a greater conflagration when they finally erupt. Remember, the Iraq-Iran war didn't end when each side saw the merits of peace, it ended when they ran out of bodies to throw at each other.
Whatever disruptions to the oil markets occur should finally convince us that it's well past time for Energy Independence. We went through an oil crisis in the 70s and came out a much better country for it. Bush claims to have faith in God, but he seems to have lost faith in the American people and doesn't seem to think they can overcome even the slightest lifestyle disruption.
