Where's the outrage among Americans that two presidential candidates are making overtures to Syria or are perhaps believing that Syria can be brought to their sides and used for their purposes?
I think most Americans listen only to network tv news that lulls and palliates, or distracts with silliness),and read their local newspapers mostly for the sports section. I doubt that most Americans could find Syria on a map, or know where the Middle East is. And they don't know or care about world OR national issues.
Cynical, yes I am, but cynicism grows out of my daily experience. I hear little that would signify that people understand or care to know history of current events. Without knowledge how can one form a rational opinion? When glib assigning of blame to whoever is president is the response to discussion of news, and suggestions that there might be more to subjects elicit little interest, I doubt that Syria is on peoples' radar.
I don't consider myself to be particularly well informed, so when I meet folks on the ballot or already in office locally, regionally, or nationally and discover that most know less and/or care less than I, that they are venal and highly agendized, and that most are or were political hacks pushed up the ladder by their handlers not because they are bright but because they follow orders... particularly in this watershed election year, I am truly frightened.
