Milberg Weiss abuses are far more than first to file cases and control of legal fees. Paidoff plaintiffs eliminate the oversight of the lawyers intended by the statute. These kickbacks allowed these crooked lawyers to settle the cases at any time without objection by the lead plaintiff. They cut the heart out of the statutory scheme by lying to judges for 30 years.

The real questions are how are the sentences going down as we move up the food chain of fraud and how did a possible 40 years sentence turn into 33 months with some home release. Schulman and Bershad took 5 now Bill and Mel get 2 and three with howm time included. Maybe we should start with actual law enforcement utilizing existing laws to prosecute more of those participating in the fraud. Instead we get Bill Lerach obtaining blanket immunity for lawyers that participated in the illegal activities. Its not the cases that are the real problem it is the crooked lawyers and lack of enforcement against powerful dirtbags.
