Yesterday I stopped in to pick up a few more obscure titles and walked away with more than that, because I never left with only my intended reading material. There are always great books there that I would never have discovered on my own. That was the real joy of Ivy's. (Also petting the dog, who himself could direct me to any title I was seeking, I bet.) I also stopped by a large chain bookstore for a specific title and was dismayed that it had a meager or non-existent selection of every author I was interested in. The difference was so stunning that I wanted to demand rent-control for all Manhattan treasures, like Ivy's/Murder Ink.
I will miss Murder Ink both for itself and for what it represented...
