I think it's interesting how conservatives are so passionate about spending money on defense rather than social programs. Just because some people may view social programs as being beneficial to society, does not make them a socialist. Just because someone does not believe that complete laissez-faire economics and an unregulated free-market are the best economic policies, does not make them a socialist. Capitalism and the markets should be regulated to a certain extent. We can not rely on absolute free markets to solve our nation's issues, especially when it comes to the interests of the "common good." There are nations who have innovative capitalist economies and strong social programs. Did you know that in the U.S., 25% of children live at or below the poverty level? That is just not right. We need to get past the ideology and do what's right for the people in this nation. Being compared to McGovern is not necessarily a bad thing.
