in response to reader comment: dual administration and less teachers=stupider kids

Submitted by Gibby, Mar 24, 2008 16:31

Charter schools often outperform public schools with the same low income troubled kids. They do it with less money, they don't discriminate, and they take the kids public schools refuse. The number of students per teacher has little bearing on the student performance, the quality of the teacher is much more important. Often charter schools have no financing for their own buildings and charter schools often spend considerably less on construction than regular public schools. Charter schools also have less administration overall than a traditional public school system. Local control also allows them to make better hiring choices, and generate creative curriculum tailored to the student's needs.

Nemo above is spouting the same baseless union stories, all of which are simply unsupported by the facts. Charter schools are a far superior option to traditional public schools. The only thing discriminating about public schools is that they have failed to educate minority and low income children thus helping them remain in the poverty trap.
