Dear Mr. McWhorter, et al.--
I enjoy your humor; it is good for the soul. And, although I love the sound of the romance languages--above all--and the study of Latin has enhanced my English comprehension and usage: English is my preference. I cannot be objective--because it is my native tongue. However, since I tutor children (and adults ) I note repeatedly the ungrammatical utterances--vocally--and on the printed page, as well.
Language is our most important means of communication, and I thoroughly agree that--should we all use a common tongue--we could and would better respect each other.
Nancy Joyce Jancourtz.
