Maynard Ferguson, 78, Master of High Notes and High Volume

The band was Maynard; three trumpets; trombone; two saxes; and bass/piano/drums. The group always included saxes. Occasionally a third saxophone was added for recordings.

Ferguson was a strong jazz soloist on virtually all the brass instruments and a fine ballad player as well. Friedwald's typecasting is easy to write but less than accurate.
