Willie Randolph was a great player and a great coach in this city; you can't tell me that he doesn't know how to win given the right players. Where did Omar do anything close?
Minaya lucked into Santana but explain to me why Brian Bannister and Heath Bell aren't there. Tell me why he signed an older hobbled 2nd baseman to a 4-yr. contract, brought back a fragile 41-yr. old Alou, didn't go with the Rockies catcher when we all see that there's nothing wrong with his shoulder, insisted on getting Delgado when it's clear he never wanted to be here, and on and on and on. BUT the most egregious of all of Minaya's decisions has to be not allowing his manager to choose his own coaches. Minaya took the respect held for Willie Randolph from him last year when he fired Downs and brought in Ricky Henderson. Ricky was a GREAT player but look at what happened to Reyes after Henderson came on board and remember what Willie said at the time - Downs was like a brother to him. When players see the FO doesn't have respect for the manager and ownership isn't happy it isn't easy to manage the team If Omar were as smart as he purports to be he would have been reinforcing the manager's status while reinforcing the team. I can't believe what a fragile team Minaya's put together they're a mess.
