This is merely perfect. As I've been harping on Gotham Baseball online, Willie isn't a bad manager. He's no manager, for every single reason you mentioned, including his ability (lack thereof) to judge talent. He finally deigns to give Endy Chavez a few starts (he's only one of the four best outfielders in the league); they win three in a row; Endy hits almost every ball hard, setting up two winning rallies with hits, goes three-for-five Tuesday as he's just starting to settle in. Naturally, next day he's out in favor of flailing Pagan because a lefthander starts. Does willie bother to check that Endy's 2005-07 average against lefties is .328? Mainly, there's no such thing as a hit-and-run or, as you noted, any device to break a pitcher's rhythm and small-ball a few runs in. I have only one question: Why don't the other NY area beat writers and columnists write up these obvious facts? Are they (as has happened before) being bullied by The Great Horwitz?
