The Upside of Bush's Foreign Policy
in response to reader comment: Bush helps africa

In a conversation with a young Ethiopian college student ( whose mother is a teacher there), she informed me that others countries hate America, at least their government. We talked for a while and I decided to check out how we had helped her country.

I found this site and read a lot and checked out some other sites. The next day I confronted her about all the help the Bush Administration had given her country and talked to her about what some of our missionaries had encountered with the people of her country. Then I said to her, if your people dislike the United States so much maybe we should stop aide to your country. I told her after all, some of the aide to her country came out of my paycheck and that I didn't want taxes from my check going to people who disliked the United States. Also, I reminded her that she was in MY country going to the University and we were affording her a wonderful education. We talked about how hard the American people work so they can prosper and that is why we are such a rich and successful country unlike many of the people in her country.

Our country spends millions, billions of dollars helping rebuild countries due to diasters, war, etc. and then they complain about the United States. If you aren't going to help yourself and complain about what I do, then you don't need to expect help from me. This is how I see it. I say, teach them to support themselves and quit depending on my tax dollars.

After this conversation she said well, I never looked at it like that and told me I had made a very good point. Maybe these people who complain and cry about what the United States is doing should be made aware of what the US has done for their country instead of bad mouthing the United States.

The working class American people are getting short changed. There are many, many, many families that need help in this country, but when they go to Social Services to get help they are turned down while foreigners receive Welfare. Many whites find themselves in this situation. I have been with some of them to try and help get them on some type of assistance and there is always a reason they can't get aide, but in North Carolina if you are from south of the border you can bet you will always get help. North Carolina needs to follow Arizona and Colorado and set new guidelines/rules for Welfare. This is another group of people who dislike us but they are here to reap all the benefits, plus have a job.
