New York in Danger of Losing Its Artists
in response to reader comment: Artist housing - work space on Governors Island

Submitted by Jessica Nissen, May 7, 2008 19:05

I have been on line researching my options- I am one of the artists the article refers to- I have been priced out of neighborhoods I have helped to become desirable to people who can afford to pay more than i can...and kicked out of lofts so that the landlords can raise the still illegal rent. I do not know where to look for affordable space in New York, either living space or work space. I am 41 year old native new yorker- a painter and very frustrated that I can no longer afford to live in my own city... Sincerely, Jessica Nissen
