Museum Exhibit Explores 'Catholics in New York'

Submitted by Nancy Canfield, May 8, 2008 11:12

I published a book called Home Kids, the Story of St. Agatha Home for Children, run by the Sisters of Charity, and now the NY Foundling, where I lived in the sixties. Talk about being present at the Revolution. When I did the research, it was formidable how the Catholic Church took hold, like a tomato plant, and grew and grew and grew. Home Kids is sold by the NY Genealogical and Biological Society, Amazon.com, and through myself. All proceeds are donated to the children of St. Agatha Home and it's more than 100 group homes. The book is currently being considered for Oprah's booklist, and I will build a permanent endowment for foster children with the proceeds from the sales. I am also in talks with a producer about creating a movie.

Home Kids contains an extensive history of the thousands of destitute NY's children and the alternatives for caring for them, from the 1800's through the 1900's. If you would be interested in possibly revieweing it, I could send you a copy. Our website is www.StAgathaHome.org. Thank you.
