Dance Legend Lingers in a Technicolor Mist

When I was eight years old my parents searched for a dance studio so that I could take ballet lessons. The finest school of dance in 1942 in Los Angeles was the Ernest Belcher School. I began my lessons and studied with Mr. Belcher until I was 18 years old. They are among the most precious memories I have. Once I entered my teens I was at the studio Monday through Saturday. I remember seeing Marge running down the huge staircase at the studio on Western Avenue with her curls bouncing, looking so beautiful. We were all in awe of her because not only was she Mr. Belcher's daughter but she was "Snow White." Mr. Belcher was one of the greatest influences in my life. He not only taught dance but from him I learned to listen with respect to a voice he never raised, to try my very best to execute the steps he taught and to practice, practice, practice! From him I learned the thrill of accomplishment and to love and appreciate the beauty of ballet. When I was 13 years old I had the privilege of helping with the students in his 10:00 a.m. Saturday class. It is with great delight that I found this website. Thank you.
