As a rabid Red Sox fan I take stories of the Yankee demise with a very fine grain of salt. Yes, I agree that they will not stage such a terrific comeback as they did last year when they almost caught us at the end. However, they are not going to be doormats much longer either. There is still a lot of talent on that team and I can remember very vividly how they got off to slow starts the last three seasons and caught and passed us in two of them. Besides, it is still early enough for them to get off the floor and become a threat to the rest of the league. They made a decision not to trade for Santana and at this point it might have been a mistake, but there is a lot of upside to keeping Hughes and Kennedy and if those two live up to their potential it will make the Yankees a force to be reckoned with for years to come. In short, this could be a transition year for the Yankees, yet even in such a scenario they still could wind up winning the AL East and getting into the WS---kind of a scary thought. My Red Sox have to make sure that does not happen and that can be done if we play the type of ball we're capable of playing. Any letdown and we let the Yanks back in the game.
