I'm a 90's kid and they did not have all that "Coddle them! Don't let them think or reason for themselves!" mania thats going on now. And my mother has always applied that to me.

There are many valuable life lessons that I have learned because of this, just like your son, who should he ever be in the position by himself knows how to get home. I know high schoolers who don't know how to take public transportation.
