Thank you for this interesting article that compares and contrasts two splendid, but very different writers. As an Englishman, I rejoice that we have both. Their writings are what count, not their lives. Both, in fact, changed their views, quite reasonably. Orwell is a great polemicist against totalitarian socialism. Waugh is, among other things, a great writer of humour. In England, we have yet to see the new film of Brideshead Revisited but from what I have read it seems a travesty of the book, not even attempting to be faithful. There was an adaptation for television some years ago, still obtainable on DVD, and that was faithful with a fine cast, including those two actor knights Olivier and Gielgood.
