What This Deal Means From a Yankee Perspective

You must be joking. Nomar and Manny where traded because in both cases, the player was unhappy with their contract situation in Boston. The enduring image of "Nomah" in 2004 is from the epic 13 inning Yankees-Red Sox game on July 1. Garciaparra is sitting on the bench in his sweatshirt when Derek Jeter makes a game-saving catch by diving head first into the stands. Many Boston observers believed that Nomar was indeed healthy enough to play and should have been in the game instead of continuing to nurse injuries. That, similar to Manny's "me first" behavior over the last two weeks is the reason for the trade.
