Mets Have Problems, but Beltran Isn't One of Them

Submitted by Joe, Aug 4, 2008 11:26

To say that Carlos Beltran is having a fabulous year is one of the most outrageous overstatements I have seen in years. Look at all NL or MLB stats for hitting with runners in scoring position and I guarantee he is one of the leagues worst. Carlos only hits when it doesn't really matter (up or down by many runs). It always to be the case that he gets up with runners on in a time when a single, not a HR, just a single would do wonders. But I can't tell you how many times when he comes up in that situation that all he ever does is hit a grounder to 2nd or pop up. He is as far from being considered a clutch hitter that anyone in MLB. The Mets as a team rank 13th in the NL in that category, so he is not the only one who is "clutch-less", they all seem to be. Between that and having the worst bullpen imaginable they will go nowhere this year. They really needed to add to the bullpen on July 31 and did nothing.
