Joe Biden is the one possibility for Obama's VP that the Republicans fear the most. If he has Republican friends, this can be a good thing with regard to a bi-partisan attitude we have not seen in DC for a long time. His faith is important to him, but he doesn't wear it on his sleeve. Obama couldn't have a better VP than Biden. Biden would serve to make him a better president. I see it as a good balance. There are many voters who would feel secure with such a ticket. Just ask them in the polls.
