I am a life long Harlemite who lives in public housing (Lincoln Houses) across the street from Rep. Rangel. I also graduated from City College with honors and will be submitting my completed Doctoral dissertation this Fall to CUNY. Odd, but I don't see African-American students on work-study or paid internships from City College in Rangel's office. As a housing advocate I receive the latest data from Washington D.C.'s National Low Income Housing Coalition Headquarters who pushed the recent National Trust Fund Legislation that Rangel has the nerve to take credit for. In Rangel's District, the Fifteenth, there is a housing deficit of 38,760 lost units to low income Harlem residents due to gentrification. In the light of this crisis, Rangel's four apartments are an obscenity. We have had public platform hearings on issues and especially housing for the Democratic Convention and are reaching out to the Republican side. There was an East Harlem Shadow Convention last Saturday held by Council member Mark Viverito.
