Former Council Speaker Seeks Extension of Term Limits

Submitted by Alex, Aug 6, 2008 14:27

Our Congress does not have term limits for good reason. Only two terms for the council creates a system of novice members who are constantly in transition. This weakens the checks and balances on the mayor, who already wields tremendous power. Our neighborhoods would be better off if we had experienced representatives who understand how to get things done, and can go toe to toe with the executive branch. Most people who take a leadership role in a company or organization have worked there for more than four years.....it should be the same for our council. Extending the limits to three terms would go a long way towards mitigating the problems I have listed.
