Leland, one of the problems with trying to attack marriage solely from a federal standpoint and then in each state is that it is harder to gather support on a federal level until individual congressional delegates see the response that their state has to these laws. It is easier to fight those individual small battles than to try mandating it nationally at the beginning. Take Canada for example, where marriage was first legalized in one or two provinces before they made it legal on a national basis. We must fight for all we can, but we cannot fight a battle like that until we have better resources, and especially since fighting it nationally with Bush still in office would be impossible. We shall see what the odds are after this next election though.
