I am currently a 50-year-old, Manhattanite native (Puerto Rican) that took the train by myself as young as 9 and not just "around" Manhattan, but I use to go to the Bronx to visit my aunt and uncle. I think being raised as an independent child made me who I am today and gave me the independent "attitude" I have now to include successfully completing kindergarten through graduate school in Manhattan while taking the NYC public transportation system by myself and "hanging out" at the Metropolitan Museum as a kid with my young friends.
