David - I couldn't agree more. Sheldon Silvers "position" at Weitz & Luxenberg and Patterson's fear of him largely to blame for why we don't hear more about this from Albany.

Bonnie - I know your questions about the poor and those on fixed incomes is somewhat rhetorical, but I am going to give my opinion anyway. :) The poor are a burden on the state. If they leave, the state is better off financially. If you put the burden on the middle class and the rich, you give more incentive for them to leave the state and take their tax dollars with them. In the end, politicians only pretend to care about poor people.
