For a truly extraordinary recording by Mikhail Pletnev listen to his reading of Sonatas and Rondos by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. This recording on DGG from 2002 sheds new light on these rarely performed works. It is unfortunate that Mr. Nordlinger has faint praise for Matt Haimovitz who has brought brilliant performances and innovative programs both to the traditional concert hall and to other venues where this music is rarely heard. Any one of his recordings on his own Oxingale label will verify this. Both the Bach Solo Sonatas and the Beethoven Piano Concertos are such unfathomable giants of music that no one recording can ever claim to be definitive but listening to several readings will enrich anyone's collection.
