2009 Yankees May Look A Lot Like 2008 Yankees

Hey, Tim. First of all, you say the Yankees need to get an outfielder and a number 5 hitter. Please, check the 40 man roster. Had you done this, you would have seen a player by the name of Xavier Nady who fills both of those holes. Also, even if he wasn't there, have you ever considered anyone out of this thing called the "farm system". Again, had you looked at that, you would have noticed players like Brett Gardner and Austin Jackson, who may possibly get a shot next year.

Also, you inadvertantly state another hole is starting pitching by saying they would need to resign Mussina. With the signing of Sabathia, there is no need for another pitcher. A rotation of Sabathia, Wang, Chamberlain, Pettitte, and Hughes/Kennedy does not need another 40 year old pitcher added to that.

You say the Yanks may not have as much to spend this year because once they fill the holes the payroll will be close to $200 million. Then you quote Hank saying he will do whatever it takes for next year. Did you interpret that as "whatever it takes but I won't even match the payroll of last year"? One would assume that whatever it takes means whatever it takes, or at least match the payroll of this year. The fact of the matter is, the Yankees have plenty of money to sign a star player this year, and if they wanted to, they could sign more than one star player. Sabathia and Tiexiera both on the Yankees is not only possible and affordable for the Yanks, it wouldn't even be surprising.
