2009 Yankees May Look A Lot Like 2008 Yankees

Submitted by Brandon, Aug 15, 2008 13:26

The 2009 Yankees will most likely be a favorite to win the world series. First of all, with Matsui, Damon, Melky and Nady they do not really need another outfielder or DH but it would help since Melky is a pathetic hitter. So Matsui is the LF, Damon in center, Nady in right and you put Melky on the bench. As for the DH you make the big splash. Sign Manny Ramirez to DH for $20 mil and crush the Red Sox while also getting superior talent. You may not have great outfield defense here but it will probably be worth it. Also, signing Teixeira to that ridiculous contract isn't even necessary.

Posada clearly shouldn't be catching anymore so make him the 1st baseman, resign Pudge for around $5 mil and and have him and Molina as your catchers. As for the rotation you know Wang, Joba, and Hughes are in. CC probably signs with the yanks for about $25 mil and then either Mussina or Pettite comes back while the other retires. Most likely Mussina comes back for his $11 mil. so a rotation of Wang, cc, Joba, Moose, and Hughes ain't so bad.

Bullpen has Rivera, Veras, Ramirez, Robertson plus pick up Martes $6 mil option bring up Melancon from aaa and then just fill it out with a long man such as Giese. as for the bench, Molina, Betemit and Cabrera are in, so you need one other player (any position really). You could give Shelley Duncan another shot or Brett Gardner or Justin Christian or go out and sign someone to the minimum. Not signing Teixeira saves a lot of money for this team.
