Part of the original rationale for making pot illegal was overtly and shamefully racist. I'm in my fifties, and my parents and their generation, when the subject was brought up in private, often held the most surprising prejudices concerning race. Their generation continues to live and to vote. They aren't the only voting block that is stubbornly anti-pot, but I think that their share of the vote is enough to keep pot illegal. You've got to hand it to them, they vote.
