Seems some good ideas are just too complicated for a lot of folks to use properly. Being careful about the kinds of terms you use to reference folks is intended to avoid casting people in self-perpetuating, language-reinforced, negative realities. It is an acknowledgment that language has power to reinforce negative images and perpetuate them. What the mayor said, in no way constitutes a reinforcement of any negative stereotype. His language certainly does not constitute abuse in any form. Is it too much to ask that folks think Before they over-react in absurd ways? "Hopping Mad" Australians. Skenazy, you truly slay me.
