Save Yankee Stadium? Babe's Granddaughter Says 'Yes'

Submitted by Donna Palmer, Aug 26, 2008 03:56

Knocking down Yankee Stadium is just a loss of another piece of iconic NY architecture. While the loss of the World Trade Center was catastrophic loss, seemingly unpreventable, losing "The House that Ruth built" is very preventable. To baseball fans all over the world "Monument Park" is a place to come and pay tribute to the great players of the past both alive and deceased. It would be similar to trying to move the Washington Monument or Lincoln Memorial, which would never happen. Baseball players whether on the Yankees or opposing team dream of playing in Yankee Stadium. While a new generation will have the new Stadium, "Yankee Stadium" for the last 100+ years holds way to much history inside to destroy it. It should be protected by the historical society as well as the baseball hall of fame...perhaps becoming an annex to Cooperstown. Just 2-cents from a fanatic fan!
