English's Enduring Value

Submitted by Phil from Queens, Aug 26, 2008 10:04

The title for this article should be "What Happened to My America?" I have some questions: Are the ATM's in other countries loaded with multiple languages? Are the overhead public announcements in department stores in Spanish in other countries? Can I take a driver's test in English in other countries? The Mayor wants people to take advantage of public services in this city? Believe they have! All one million of the illegals have done so. The glue of a country is its universal language. A slow and debilitating erosion of this country has occurred over the last thirty years. As a boy, I remember immigrants telling their children "Speak English" this is America. Obama's recommendation was flawed and an insult to thinking people. If I was going to live in France, you bet I would learn the language. So his recommendation is absurd. I live here and I speak English and I am not compelled to learn another language with the fluency he suggests. So please do not be ashamed Mr. Obama. Nice article Ms. Colon.
