I live a block and a half away from the canal and can only imagine how nice it must have been as wetlands. Ah, to stand on the corner of 2nd ave and 9th st. with a pair of binoculars and watch an elegant egret through the distant misty marsh - aye, there's the rub. PS - whose bright idea was it to put parking regulations on 2nd ave for "street cleaning"?!?! I'd like to see that street EVER get clean, it's got a build-up of toxic soot by the curb that could only be scoured via nuclear fission! Thank you city, for reaching your greedy paws further into our destitute pockets.
